Crews battling the fire raging in Telegraph Creek recieved more bad news last night as the Alkali Lake Fire has officially merged with the South Stikine Fire.
The merger has been expected for the past couple of days and, according to information officer Heather Rice, the combined fires are now covering nearly 29 thousand hectares.
Rice says that there was some additional structural damage overnight, though protecting buildings and infrastructure continues to be the focus of crews.
Weather is also not expected to assist firefighters today, says Rice, as they are predicting heavy winds and a cold front to shift the flames, causing them to spread even further.
While smoke will be heavily visible in the area, flames ares till not impacting Dease Lake, and there are no alerts for the area.
