Federal MPs met in Ottawa today for an emergency session regarding last week’s Federal Court of Appeal decision to halt the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project.
Ministers from the Natural Resources Committee gathered for the meeting, calling for the Liberals to lay out a plan for what happens next.
Committee member and conservative MP Shannon Stubbs put forward a motion to have Finance Minister Bill Morneau and Natural Resources Minister Amarjeet Sohi appear before the committee with an explanation.
The motion was dismissed following a vote.
Meanwhile, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh urged the government to abandon the project and not seek an appeal.
Skeena Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen echoed Singh’s request, saying an appeal would be “throwing good money after bad.”
