With last week’s deadline for municipal election nominations come and gone, the election picture in the northwest has begun to take shape.
A withdrawl announcement from Terrace mayoral candidate Danny Nunes means incumbent Carol Leclerc will be running unopposed.
Nunes has also withdrawn his candidacy for the Kitimat position, meaning only activist David Johnston sits between Mayor Phil Germuth and re-election.
In Prince Rupert, current Mayor Lee Brian will also find himself unchallenged in his efforts to seek re-election.
The mayoral race in Hazelton will focus around incumbent Alice Maitland and challenger Dennis Sterritt.
Meanwhile Smithers Mayor Taylor Bachrach will have his position challenged by Randy Bell.
In Houston and Stewart, respective Mayors Shane Brienen and Gina McKay will also find their posts unchallenged.
Municipal election day is set for October 20th, candidates will have until this Friday to withdraw from the races.
