A funeral was held in Smithers on Sunday to honour the life of environmental advocate, community pillar, and Wit’suwet’en Chief Wah Tah K’eght.
Chief Wah Tah K’eght, also known as Henry Alfred passed away on September 23rd due to complications relating to pneumonia.
The Chief was the last surviving plaintiff of the 1977 Delgamuuk court case which saw the Wit’suwet’en, along with the Gitxsan, win the right to have jurisdiction over their land and resources.
Attendees of a memorial held on Thursday called it a powerful celebration of the Chief’s life and accomplishments.
