According to Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen, the Federal Government could stand to learn something from LNG Canada’s interactions with First Nations.
Cullen specifically pointed out the mishandling of First Nations consultations on the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion, and compared it to LNG Canada’s Kitimat project.
While some First Nations bands remain opposed to the Kitimat project, the majority of those directly impacted were consulted and issued approval for the project.
Cullen has been critical of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s handling of the Trans Mountain pipeline, saying he plans to follow the same antiquated consultation process that sunk the project last time.
