British Columbia’s labour force is more than ready to handle the influx of jobs that LNG will bring, according to the BC Building Trades Council.
LNG Canada has agreed to place a priority on hiring local as it brings 10 thousand new jobs to the province for their Kitimat project.
The group has also awarded a 620 million dollar contract to work with Indigenous businesses along the Coastal GasLink pipeline route.
Building Trades Council executive director Tom Sigurdson believes that speculation around whether or not BC will have enough skilled workers is misguided.
Sigurdson says that the province has been preparing LNG workers for years under fear that they would not have enough workers.
The preparation began back when the community thought it would need to prepare for two plants coming to the province.
