After a decade of speculation, Fort St James and the surrounding area will finally be getting a new hospital.
Minister of Health Adrian Dix was in Fort St James today to make the highly anticipated announcement.
According to the minister, discussions arround a replacement for the hospital, originally built in 1972, began in 2008.
In September of 2015, Northern Health submitted their initial concept plan for a new hospital, which was revised this summer and finally approved this month.
With the concept plan approved, the Stuart Lake Hospital Replacement Project will now move in to the business planning phase, which is expected to take 12 to 18 months.
Dix hopes that construction on the project will begin in 2020.
