The City of Prince Rupert has started rolling on its marijuana zoning bylaw as legalization of cannabis approaches.
Council passed first reading of the bylaw that will see retail cannabis sales restricted to an area stretching from about Second Avenue West through downtown Prince Rupert to Cow Bay.
However, Mayor Lee Brain says it’s early days yet, noting that many of the proposed recommendations are subject to change upon public feedback and review.
The proposed zoning bylaw would also restrict retail cannabis outlets from operating within 75 meters of each other.
Brain emphasized the need for public input on the proposed bylaw so that retail sales can be done in a safe and responsible way that makes sense for the community.
