First Nations LNG Alliance CEO, and former Wet’suwet’en elected chief Karen Ogen-Toews has issued an impassioned statement preaching unity among her Nation.
Ogen-Toews issued the statement this morning, pleading with elected and hereditary chiefs to come together to benefit the Wet’suwet’en people.
According to the former chief, the announcement of a second Unist’ot’en camp to block development of the Coastal GasLink pipeline will only divide the Nation further.
In the statement, Ogeen-Toews says that, while the traditional rights cited by the hereditary chiefs are important, so to is economic development within their territories.
She is calling for the two sects of chiefs to come together on a decision that best benefits the entire nation.
