Concerned Terrace resident Leticia Kistamas is set to bring a proposal before City Council requesting the banning of single use plastic products in the City.
Each year, according to Kistamas’s research, an estimated 18 thousand pounds of plastic waste enters the world’s oceans from coastal regions.
In order to help combat this, and the environmental impacts, Kistamas is proposing the city slowly phase out single-use plastic products.
These products include: plastic grocery bags, and plastic straws, cups and cutlery.
Similar bans have been proposed in cities such as Vancouver and Victoria.
Kistamas intends to bring her proposal before Terrace City Council at their January 28th regular meeting.
