CN Rail has responded to a request for information on dangerous goods shipping issued by the SkeenaWild Conservation Trust.
Last month, SkeenaWild sent a letter to CN asking for them to disclose information regarding their spill response and public safety frameworks.
In the letter, the Trust asked a series of questions such as what ypes of dangerous goods CN Rail transports and in what volumes, locations of rail lines in proximity to waterways, response and evacuation plans, training requirements and team locations, and jurisdictional clarification.
In their response, CN clarified that they do not decide what they ship and that they are legally required to carry goods presented by customers.
According to CN, they have a comprehensive spill response plan in BC, which is rapidly mobilized in the event of an emergency, and cooperates with local authorities to access public risks.
SkeenaWild’s concerns relate mostly to goods being shipped to two new export facilities on Ridley Island.
