An environmental group has concerns about a proposed propane export terminal in Kitimat.
Pacific Traverse Energy has plans for a new rail yard, a 15 km pipeline, and marine export terminal.
Elizabeth Thorne of Douglas Channel Watch told Kitimat council she has concerns about the location of the proposed railyard, a lack of environmental assessment, and questions about the district’s emergency response planning.
Jonathan Turner, Pacific Traverse VP of Public Affairs, later updated Kitimat council members about the status of the project over the last two years.
Turner says company has reached a land deal with the Haisla for its floating export terminal and has received a 25 year export licence.
Turner says the company is still trying to find a piece of Crown land which could be used to develop its rail yard.
The next phase will be public consultation and community engagement.
The propane export terminal is expect to create 150-200 construction jobs and 70-90 operations jobs.
