Kitselas Elder Alfred McDames paid Terrace City Council a visit yesterday to update them on the First Nations Indigenous Response Scenario Training Program.
Over the course of the last 9 months, the project has been working to form bonds with neighbouring emergency preparedness and response, training, and education organizations.
Five workshops were held in the Kitselas in 2018, culminating in an October meeting to validate the FIRST program’s course content.
FIRST has 6 activities already scheduled for 2019 with a focus on training and education initiatives.
In order to keep growing, McDames came before council yesterday seeking a letter of support in their application for an additional 200 thousand dollars in funding.
New funding would come from the National Indian Brotherhood Trust Fund to cover the cost of a full-time project manager, as well as the continued development of course content.
