Women and children fleeing violence and abuse in northern BC will soon have 3 more places to go.
As part of the Building BC: Women’s Transition Fund, projects in Smithers, Prince George, and Kitimat will see funding.
In Prince George, 18 transition house beds, 16 second-stage housing units, and 21 affordable townhouses will be operated by the Elizabth Fry Housing Society.
Smithers will see two second stage housing units, one for young women and mothers, and one for all women, both operated by the Northern Society for Domestic Peace.
12 transition house beds, 10 second-stage housing units, and 20 affordable rental homes will be funded in Kitimat and operate by the Tamatik Status of Women Association.
In total, 12 projects have been approved so far, with 280 new homes being committed to.
