A new commemoration fund is being established by the federal government to honour the lives and legacies of murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls.
Minister for Women and Gender Equality Maryam Monsef says we can’t moved forward until we acknowledge the past and eliminate gender-based violence.
The fund’s creation is in response to one of the recommendations from the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls’ Interim Report.
Over the next two years, the Government of Canada will invest 10 million dollars in the fund, which will contribute to projects that support healing, help increase public awareness, and honour Indigenous women, girls, and LGBTQ+ members.
Funding proposals can be submitted until March 28th at this link.
