Terrace Search and Rescue say two skiers are lucky to have their fingers and toes after getting stranded over the weekend.
Search Manager Dave Jephson says the pair misjudged the time and got caught in the dark on a ridge between Shames and Mount Remo Saturday night.
Jephson says the initial plan was to have them spend the night on the hill, but with temperatures hovering around minus 22 and the skiers not adequately equipped, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre was contacted.
A military search and rescue helicopter was able to locate and airlift the skiers to safety at about 12:30 Sunday morning.
They were taken to Mills Memorial Hospital in Terrace where both were treated for hypothermia and one was treated for frostbite.
Jephson says the two skiers are lucky to have survived the ordeal relatively unharmed.
