In a follow up to a request made before City Council on January 14th, the Terrace Fire Department have released their railway emergency response plan.
Concerns were raised during that January 14th meeting over what would happen to Terrace residents in the event of a catastrophic CN Rail disaster.
Contrary to popular belief, Fire Chief John Klie says that the City’s emergency responders worked closely with CN Rail to develop their plan, with members of CN being easily contacted if need be.
According to Chief Klie, all full time crew members have been sent to the appropriate emergency training, often times even paid for by CN Rail or AtlaGas.
Highlighting the plan, Chief Klie says the City follows an “All-Hazards” approach to dealing with dangerous good spills, meaning they prepare for all materials, not just one.
Klie says he is willing to make the plan available online if requested.
