For the first time ever, the Skeena-Bulkley Valley Federal Conservatives will be represented by a Kitimat resident.
While the elections won’t technically be held until next week, both candidates in the riding hail from the town.
Jody Craven has resided in Kitimat since 1980 and is even a graduate of Mount Elizabeth Secondary, he recently retired from his job at Rio Tinto.
Craven’s campaign will have a focus on improving the lives of Canada’s senior citizens.
Claire Rattée became the youngest person ever elected to the District of Kitimat Council in 2014, and is co-owner of the DivineInk tattoo parlour.
Rattée will be a voice for local and smaller businesses to help young business owners thrive.
Conservative Party of Canada members will be able to vote in Prince Rupert on Sunday morning, Terrace in the afternoon, and Kitimat in the evening.
Smithers residents will vote the next day.
Currently, the riding is represented by New Democratic MP Nathan Cullen, who has held the spot since 2004.
Cullen has yet to announce whether or not he plans to run again.
