Ex-Telkwa Mayor Darcy Repen is leading the charge in a campaign to get ICBC to release rate information by postal code.
Repen says that, according to 2016 data, rural drivers are essentially paying up to two times more than their urban counterparts on insurance.
While urban drivers do tend to pay slightly higher rates, they also get in far more accidents which, on average, cost a lot more.
Ultimately the goal of the campaign is to get ICBC to re-examine its regional rating system, but for now, Repen is simply seeking information.
Since Repen says suing ICBC would essentially be suing the government, he is instead employing public pressure to access the information.
Repen wants data on premiums and claims costs broken down by postal code over the past 5 years.
