Members of a number of First Nations communities in the Terrace area came together to discuss the treaty process last night.
Hosted by the BC Treaty Commission, the discussion took place at the Best Western in Terrace last night.
Currently there are six Nations in the area in active treaty negotiations, and two more involved in the treaty process in some capacity.
Four of those: the Metlakatla, Gitga’at, Gitxsan, Gitanyow, and Wet’suwet’en Nations are in stage four of the six stage process.
Meanwhile, the Kitsumkalum and Kitselas, who negotiate together, are in the fifth and final stage of negotiations before a treaty is proposed.
The BC Treaty Commission is an independant facilitator of treaty negotiations.
