Four communities along BC’s north coast will benefit from a 1 million dollar investment by Ridley Terminals Inc.
Based on Ridley Island in Prince Rupert, the terminal is celebrating its 35th anniversary in the community.
In honour of that, the company has decided to invest in community projects which support the trades, heritage and culture, or diversity among women and Indigenous peoples.
Prince Rupert, Port Edward, Lax Kw’alaams, and Metlakatla will all benefit from the funding.
Just over 288 thousand of that will go towards School District 52’s Truth and Reconciliation Implementation Plan.
200 thousand will go to Metlakatla to update its recreational facility.
Another 200 thousand is earmarked for Lax Kw’alaams to add a three lane track and turf field.
In Prince Rupert, 90 thousand will go towards equipment and training for the Coastal Pathways program, and 100 thousand to the Women’s Leadership Network to host a conference.
Various projects in Port Edward will benefit from 79 thousand in funding, and the remaining 42 thousand goes to the Breakfast Club of Canada.
