Another recreational cannabis store in Terrace is inching closer to realization after passing their first provincial background check.
Late last year, City Council approved an application for a retail outlet in the Skeena Mall, but that store would be owned by the province.
High Point Cannabis Limited, one of seven proposed stores in the City, would be the first private-owned outlet to be granted approval.
They are looking to bring the locally-owned store to a vacant lot in the Gobind strip mall, formerly inhabited by Skeena Waters Fly Shop.
A public hearing was held last week at City Hall, with the only concern raised being a name related mix up.
Council must now decide whether or not to approve the application and send it to the Liquor Cannabis Regulation Branch for license approval.
Meanwhile, Quesnel City Council have sent the LCRB one retail Cannabis store application of their own, and approved another.
Of those applications, one proposed for 308 McLean Street would be privately-owned, while a provincially-owned store in the West Park Mall has been issued a license.
Neither of the two proposed stores received any complaints during public consultations.
Dubbed Hi Times, the private-owned store still needs to acquire LCRB approval before moving forward.
Set to be operated by the Liquor Distribution Branch, the West Park Mall store aims to begin a 30 week opening process on March 15th.
