During their last meeting, Terrace City Council was presented with a request to wave 12 thousand dollars in Sportsplex fees for a basketball tournament.
After reviewing their budget, the City has offered to make a one-time contribution of 30 percent to go towards the fees.
At that initial meeting, the Terrace Basketball Association presented the idea of the tournament, which would be similar in structure to the All Native Basketball Tournament.
They proposed to have the Sportsplex host the event during the week of Riverboat Days.
An over-ice hardwood court would be provided by the Association as a play surface.
Council are offering the deal for the first year only, in an effort to guage public interest.
Should the tournament return on an annual basis, they would be responsible for the full fee.
Council supported the decision by arguing that there are many other organizations that use the Sportsplex for similar events who all pay out of pocket.
30 percent of the fee works out to roughly 34 hundred dollars.
