A group in Terrace is looking to provide those who have lost loved ones too soon with a place to pay their respects.
Via the Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women Commemoration fund, the group is applying for 200 thousand dollars in funding.
With that funding, the Terrace-area sect of the MMIW group would bring a commemorative totem to the City.
In order to apply for the funding, the group first acquired the support of 4 area First Nations: the Gitxsan, Tsimshian, Nisga’a, and Haisla.
Yesterday, they acquired the support of the City of Terrace, thanks to a letter to be penned by City Council.
Plans, should they be approved, are to errect the totem on territory belonging to the Kitsumkalum, who have been very supportive of the project.
The deadline to apply for funding is March 28th, with an estimated project completion date slated for July of 2021.
