UNBC students will be soon be able to complete a full engineering degree in the North with help from the provincial government.
The province has announced $3.5 million dollars for new learning facilities at the Prince George campus which will allow the first full civil and environmental engineering program in northern B.C. starting in September, 2019.
According to the government, the money will help UNBC increase its use of existing classroom space and teaching laboratories, as well as create a centralized collaboration space.
“I’m proud of UNBC’s stellar reputation as an institution committed to sustainability, and a contributor to world-class teaching and research in the field of engineering,” said Daniel Weeks, UNBC president in a government news release. “We’re thankful to the government for providing funding that is truly meaningful for our future scholars and talented faculty, whose work helps showcase the North’s leadership on a global scale.”
The Province announced funding for new engineering degree programs in January which will eventually lead to an additional 280 spaces by 2022-23 and 70 graduates a year by 2023.
