Additional prevention strategies and funding has been announced as we approach the 2019 wildfire season.
As part of Budget 2019, wildfire management funding was increased by 58 percent, bringing it to 101 million dollars annually.
Minister of Forests and Lands Doug Donaldson says some of that new money will be spent on new and innovative technology.
For 2019, the BC Wildfire service will invest in adding more crews, enhancing aerial capacity, fire prevention activities, and a more comprehensive prescribed burn plan.
An additional 10 million dollars has been added to the Community Resiliency Investment Program, now totalling 60 million dollars.
13 million dollars over the next 3 years will be invested in the Forest Carbon Initiative to reduce wildfire risks through reforestation programs.
