Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Judy Darcy was in Terrace today to unveil an innovative way to combat addiction and mental health issues.
Minister Darcy announced the mobile service unit today in front of frontline workers, medical staff, Northern Health brass, and community members.
Utilizing a retrofitted ambulance, the intensive case management team will bring mental health and addictions services to those who need them most.
Along with mobile treatment, the unit will offer take home naloxone kits and training, basic wound care, and referals to sustained care.
Teams will begin initial outreach next month to determine exactly which communities the new service will reach.
This unit is part of the Specialized Community Service Program for Mental Health and Addictions in the Northwest Health Service Delivery Area.
