The BC government has fined the Mackenzie Pulp Mill Corporation for emissions infractions that happened between 2015 and 2017.
The environment ministry says it issued an Administrative Monetary Penalty under the Environmental Management Act for $92,500.
Officials say the mill’s sulphur emissions exceeded permit limits four times between 2016 and 2017 between 103% and 520% above the maximum.
The ministry says the operation also exceeded its particulate emissions permits three times between 2015 and 2016 ranging from nine and 120%.
The company also failed to maintain the mill’s air scrubber emissions equipment in January, 2017.
It’s not the first time the mill, owned by Paper Excellence, has run afoul of the environmental regulations.
The company was fined $900,000 last April and added to the federal Environmental Offenders Registry for leaking effluent into Williston Lake between 2014 and 2016.
