A number of northern communities are receiving a cut of provincial funding to go towards improving Emergency Operations Centres.
In total, 63 local and First Nations communities will split 1.5 million dollars from the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund to support the EOCs and related training.
In the north, the Bulkley-Nechako, Cariboo, Peace River, and North Coast Regional Districts will all get 25 thousand dollars for various EOC projects.
Along with the Districts, Fort St James, Prince George, Prince Rupert, Smithers, Stewart, and the Nisga’a Lisims Government will all receive funding.
Projects receiving funding focus on: flood risk assessment, mapping and mitigation, emergency social services, EOC upgrades and training, and evacuation routes.
A second intake for structural flood mitigation closes in October.
