Massett, Queen Charlotte, Prince Rupert, Prince George, Williams Lake, and Terrace have all been approved for provincial child care planning funds.
In September, the government announced the Community Child Care Planning Program, a 3 million dollar partnership with the Union of BC Municipalities.
That program will send grant funding to local municipalities and regional districts to perform assessments of what type of child care is needed and subsequently create an action plan.
Each of the above northern communities will receive between 23 and 25 thousand dollars, and are among 70 communities total receiving funding.
In addition, 3.6 million dollars is being invested in Indigenous communities over the next 3 years to support child care planning.
