Ground Search and Rescue teams across BC will be receiving 18.6 million dollars in additional provincial funding.
Minister of Public Safety Mike Farnworth called the one-time payment a top-up of funding already being received.
The payment represents the largest single GSAR investment in the province’s history, and is to be spent over the next 3 years.
With the funding, the BC Search and Rescue Association will be able to improve training, provide administrative support, and improve equipment rentals.
In addition, the Association will work with Emergency Management BC to develop a new governance system, and more sustainable funding model.
A partnership committee between the two organizations will be formed to provide policy direction and make funding decisions.
There are more than 80 Ground Search and Rescue teams across BC.
