Taylor Bachrach wants to make the jump from municipal to federal politics.
The Smithers mayor has announced that he’s taking a run at the NDP nomination for Skeena-Bulkley Valley.
In a Facebook post Wednesday, Bachrach says there are three core values he holds as he enters the race; local voices must be strongly represented in decisions that impact the region, the shared concern for future generations, and that the way to move ahead as a region is through mutual respect.
Bachrach says it’s a big step for himself and his family, but expressed thanks for those that have encouraged him to run.
Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen announced March 1 that he would not be running again.
Northwest NDP members will decide who will represent the party at a May 25 nomination meeting in Terrace.
So far, Bachrach and Terrace resident Amanda Ramsay have put their names forward.
