The University of Northern BC’s next chancellor will be from the Nisga’a Nation.
Hereditary Chief Dr. Joseph Arthur Gosnell Senior, who was the first elected President of the Nisga’a Lisims Government, will be the university’s seventh chancellor.
Gosnell was instrumental in negotiations that led to the historic Nisga’a Treaty in 1998, the first modern treaty between a B.C. First Nation, British Columbia and Canada.
Gosnell calls the honour a blessing and says the best thing he can do is to encourage young men and women, no matter who they are, to take advantage of education and go as far as they can.
He will be sworn in May 31st at the convocation ceremony in Prince George.
