A suspected chimney fire had the Thornhill Fire Department putting in time early this morning.
10 fire fighters were dispatched to a home in the Gitaus community at roughly 1:20 this morning.
Crews believe the fire had burnt undetected in the home’s attic for some time before spilling down the voids in the ceiling and walls.
There were 5 individuals in the home at the time of the fire, though no injuries were reported as a result.
Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the chimney area and an investigation in to the exact cause is still underway.
Residents are reminded to check that their smoke detectors are working, with good batteries to avoid this type of situation.
