A campaign to bring a Canadian Armed Forces Reserve Unit to Terrace is quickly gaining support.
Murray Hamer stood before Terrace City Council yesterday to highlight the benefits a Local Reserve Unit could bring to the City, especially to young residents.
According to Hamer, the Unit would offer youth in the community an opportunity to simultaneously pursue a military and civilian career.
In addition, it would allow interested youth to stay at home while pursuing a military career, assist them in accessing and completing education, and help to keep them in shape.
To the community as a whole, the Unit would bring welcomed assistance in responding to natural disasters.
For Terrace, Hamer is proposing a Platoon Unit, which would be made up of 40 reserve troops.
Hamer says there are a number of suitable, underutilized, locations in the City which could host a unit, many of which are schools.
Terrace Council voted to write a letter of support for the unit, joining Kitimat, Hazelton, the Regional District, and more.
