Terrace Fire Chief John Klie says that, in his opinion, the city’s fire prevention bylaw should remain as is.
Earlier this year, a resident brought concerns over the city’s burning restrictions before Council.
Those concerns centered around the restriction of burning on residential properties limiting waste disposal on larger lots.
Klie then spent some time reviewing the bylaw and preparing a report and recommendation for Council.
In that report, Klie highlighted air pollution and tendencies to “smoke out” neighbours as reasons to keep the restrictions.
Councillor Lynne Christiansen brought up a middle ground of issuing permits at the Chief’s discretion.
While permits can be issued for industrial, agricultural, and commercial zones, Chief Klie says they have cleaner means of burning than most residents.
Only Christiansen was opposed as Council voted to accept the recommendation and keep the bylaw as is.
