RCMP say distracted driving caused a serious crash east of New Hazelton Wednesday night.
Police and emergency crews were called out around 8:50 when an east-bound pickup crossed the centre line of Highway and side-swiped west-bound transport truck.
The lone female at the wheel of the pickup suffered serious, but non life-threatening injuries while the transport driver was not injured.
Investigators say the pickup driver was distracted by her cell phone and issued her a ticket.
Highway 16 was closed to traffic about 15 kilometres east of New Hazelton while police investigated, but the road has since fully reopened.
RCMP say the crash is a reminder to motorists about the dangers of distracted driving, someting that kills an average of 78 people a year in B.C.
