Smithers residents will have a chance to influence the rezoning of a town-owned site thanks to an upcoming public hearing.
During a meeting late last month, Council gave first and second readings to an amendment and rezoning of 2.4 acres of land off Main Street.
Nearly 1.5 acres of the site, located at the LB Warner Centre, would be affected by the changes.
If adopted, the Official Community Plan would be amended to change the zone from community use to mixed residential.
Changes would not effect the nearby Bulkley Valley Gumnastics Club.
According to the town, if rezoned, the property could fit up to 36 new housing units.
While an official hearing date has not yet been set, Mayor Taylor Bachrach expects the hearing to take place in late April.
