Senate hearings on legislation that would ban oil tankers on the coast are kicking off in Northwest BC next week.
Bill C-48, or the Oil Tanker Moratorium Act, would prohibit oil tankers carrying more than 12,500 tons of crude oil from stopping on BC’s northcoast.
On Tuesday, the committee will visit Prince Rupert to speak with MP Nathan Cullen, MLA Jennifer Rice, and Prince Rupert Mayor Lee Brain.
Following that, MLA Ellis Ross, Nisga’a President Eva Clayton, and Kitimat Mayor Phil Germuth will present in Terrace the next day.
After that, the committee will make their way east before a Senate review decides whether to send the bill to the House.
