Northwest programs supporting youth, Indigenous healing, and women escaping violence will benefit from one-time provincial funding.
Over $200,000 though the Crime Prevention and Remediation grant program will be shared by six organizations in the Smithers-Hazelton region.
The Northern Society for Domestic Peace will use $75,000 for its Women’s Safety Outreach Response Initiative as well as $30,000 each for its Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Family Gatherings and Partnerships Against Sexual Violence projects.
Other organizations receiving grants are the Dze L K’ant Friendship Centre, Wit’suwet’en Language and Culture Society, and the Gitxsan Health Society.
The Crime Prevention and Remediation grant program is funded through proceeds of the Civil Forfeiture Office, which aims to take proceeds of crime and put them back into community crime prevention and safety.
