In a testimony delivered before the Senate Committee on Transport and Communication, Northcoast MLA Jennifer Rice reaffirmed her support for Bill C-48.
Bill C-48 looks to enact a moratorium banning large oil tanker traffic on the Northcoast, and was the focus of Committee hearings held in Prince Rupert yesterday.
Rice gave her testimony before that Committee, highlighting just how key the marine ecosystem is to coastal communities.
As part of that testimony, the MLA said that, for those communities, water is life and a large spill can be catastrophic to those who rely on it.
She referenced the Nathan E Stewart spill of 2016, which resulted in the year-long cancellation of harvesting for numerous marine-species.
Rice was joined by other high-profile speakers such as MP Nathan Cullen and Environment Minister George Heyman.
Committee hearings will continue in Terrace today.
