Proposed amendments to the City’s Official Community Plan could bring a new style of affordable housing to Terrace.
As part of their regular meeting yesterday, City Council gave first and second readings to an amendment that would add a new zone.
Designated RB1, the new zone would be a Barelands Strata Single Detached Residential zone.
Under regular Strata zoning, the homeowner generally owns a pre-constructed building, but not the property.
With a Barelands Strata zone, however, the owners must build a building on the property and only common areas, such as accesses and amenities, would be shared.
This allows for smaller, more affordable, detached dwellings ideal for first-time home buyers or retirees.
An amendment to rezone property at 4921 Halliwell Avenue to the new RB1 designation was presented alongside the OCP amendment.
Council voted to give first and second readings to both the OCP amendment and the zoning amendment.
