The Department Fisheries and Oceans has found another large, illegal dump of crabs in the Northwest.
Fisheries officers responding to a tip April 17 found about 200 Dungeness crabs tossed off the side of Skeena Crossing Road, approximately 20 km west of Hazelton.
The DFO says the crabs were heavily decayed and were dumped in a similar fashion to the pile of crabs found near Smithers April 2.
Officers say they’re confident the two cases are connected.
The DFO says it’s received a number of valuable tips in its investigation, but says it can’t comment further at this time.
Anyone with information about either case should contact the 24 hour Observe Record Report line at 1-800-465-4336, Fishery Officer Brodie Cardinal at (250) 847-5937 or Fishery Officer Zachary Fournier at (250) 847-9684.
