Three out of Four individuals involved in a plane crash near Smithers on Saturday morning have passed away.
Bulkley Valley Search and Rescue have now completed their efforts at the site and passed the incident over to the RCMP to investigate.
According to the RCMP, one male passenger was rescued by SAR teams via helicopter, while 2 passengers and the pilot have been declared dead.
BC Chief Fire Information Officer Kevin Skrepnek says that the plane was carrying a crew contracted by the BC Wildfire Service.
Skrepnek says the team had been performing aerial imaging at the time of the crash.
A social media post from former Hudson Bay Mountain Resort CEO Lorne Borgal’s wife confirmed that he was among the 3 casualties.
A joint investigation between Smithers RCMP and the Transportation Safety Board in to the cause of the crash is currently underway.
