RCMP in Smithers are notifying the public of a recent spike in property crime in the area.
Police say that the increase largely centres around two categories: thefts from insecure vehicles, and from rural properties with workshops or sheds.
According to officers, perpetrators are using vehicles, occassionally with trailers, to steal tools and larger pieces of equipment such as generators.
In certain cases, ATVs and dirt bikes have also been targeted.
RCMP are now urging all residents to make sure their vehicles, sheds, and workshops remain locked when not in use, and that residents report all suspicious activity.
If you have activity to report, you can contact Smithers RCMP at 250 847 3233.
