Northern Health says it has no confirmed cases of measles in its region, including Terrace/Kitimat.
The comment comes as staff at the Haisla Community School sent out a notice about a possible, but unconfirmed case of measles at the school.
Eryn Collins with Northern Health Communications says there has been heightened awareness about measles with recent cases elsewhere.
Collins says any suspected case would be assessed and ideally ruled out by physically examining the patient, looking at their symptoms, exposure risk, and immunization history.
She says Northern Heath will inform the general public of measles activity when there is reason to do so, including when there is an identifiable risk to the public and to those that may have been exposed and they can’t be contacted directly.
The health authority is reminding residents to ensure that their immunizations are up to date.
