Northwesterners will not be effected by a new fuel surcharge being introduced by BC Ferries.
In an effort to offset increasing fuel costs, BC Ferried is adding a 1.5 percent fee to their rates beginning next month.
According to the company, the increase is in line with a rebate system that has been in place for 15 years, which will pass both savings and added fuel expenses on to customers.
But, due to a separate costing mechanism employed in the north, those taking the Port Hardy to Prince Rupert, Prince Rupert to Haida Gwaii, and Port Hardy to Central Coast routes will be exempt from the new surcharge.
