In honour of the first annual BC Wild Salmon Day, the province is investing 5 million dollars in to salmon habitat preservation efforts.
Thanks to the funding, the Pacific Salmon Foundation will be able to continue its conservation and habitat restoration projects.
BC Wild Salmon Day is a collaborative effort between the Foundation and the province intended to raise awareness of the need to conserve wild salmon populations.
With the funding, the Foundation also intends to connect with Indigenous communities to further conservation initiatives.
This funding helps to fulfill recommendations made in a report released by the Wild Salmon Advisory Council in March.
