Construction on a new hospital for Terrace is just around the corner.
Health Minister Adrian Dix says the provincial government has approved the business plan for the new Mills Memorial Hospital.
Dix says says the business plan stage is a crucial phase for the project, as it sets out scope, time-frame, and cost.
The new hospital will be twice the size of the current hospital with 78 single-patient beds, an expanded emergency room, and will have four operating rooms and the latest imaging equipment.
The hospital will also serve as the region’s Level 3 designated trauma centre, meaning patients needing urgent assistance will be treated at the facility, rather than being sent elsewhere.
Mental health services will also see improvement. Dix says a new and larger Seven Sisters mental health facility will be built on site with construction tenders going out in a number of weeks.
The new mental health facility is slated to be complete by the fall of 2020, clearing the way for the new hospital construction.
