Newly completed improvements are set to increase the capability of the Lax Kwa’laams Rescue Society.
Thanks, in part, to a 55 thousand dollar contribution from the Prince Rupert Port Authority, the Society was able to wrap up their equipment upgrades last week.
Previously, equipment at RCM Search and Rescue Station 65 had been in frequent need of repair, leading to wasted time by the team.
With the upgrades, the Society will be able to improve response time and accomodate more complex future rescues.
Equipment and facility upgrades include: new radar and communication equipment, boat handling upgrades, updated emergency response equipment, and infrared search equipment.
In total the Lax Kwa’laams Rescue Society has 22 volunteers on call 24 hours a day.
